Balthazar_Nebot_-_Allegory_of_Fortune_-_Google_Art_Project

Balthazar Nebot, Allegory of Fortune, ca. 1730. The image depicts an unclothed woman, perched on a celestial orb emerging from a darkened sky and blindfolded like justice, sprinkling the contents of her two bags into the hands, mugs, and mouths of an eager crowd below. On the left she distributes riches, money, arts, and keys; on the right, demons, shackles, and gallows. Although all classes of people seem to be on both sides, a shallow river separates one side from the other. A gleeful painter crosses a narrow foot bridge to the "riches" side, capture falling coins in their cap.
